During New York Fashion Week, NYC based brand Telfar decided to change it up a bit. Instead of a traditional show, the “It Bag” powerhouse took their multi-colored totes to Brooklyn for a unique and memorable shopping event. Always the innovator, Telfar emptied an entire Rainbow store and filled it to the brim with an array of their famed bags. Shoppers came in droves, wrapping around three city blocks.
Front and center was Telfar Clemens, the 37-year-old Liberian fashion designer, greeting his many supporters. This wasn’t your exclusive invite-only fashion week event. Staying true to the brands inclusive ethos, the gathering was opened to the public where attendees could purchase a max of 5 Telfar bags of the heart’s desire. This in-person event was a first for the brand and a huge success.
With prices from $150-$257 it can be tempting to scoop up as many bags as possible. But I think there’s an art to shopping Telfar, where they usually sell out online in mere seconds. It all starts with the colorway. I’ve been an avid Telfar customer for the past 2 years, making my first purchase- a medium oxblood tote- during the onset of the pandemic. Since then I’ve gone on to purchase 3 more bags: a large electric blue, a medium black and a small Barbie pink. Needless to say, I’m obsessed. My fave everyday option at the moment is the oxblood medium style. As a busy working mom it fits all the daily essentials, with room for whatever the day may bring.
My Pro tip for purchasing Telfar bags is staying darker hued for the medium and large bags. Save the bold colors for a mini, which is sure to add a fun pop to any outfit. I find that for everyday, dark shades like black and chocolate brown look sleek while elevating your look. Who else is excited for the next Telfar drop? I’ll be there ready to add to cart.
