PINK PANTHERS
Pink had to be the sweetest trend to come out of the Oscars. From pale shades of baby pink on Kasey Musgraves in Giambattista Valli to deep hues of cerise worn by Frances McDormand in Maison Valentino and Helen Mirren in Schiaperelli.
GENDER NEUTRAL
Girls will be boys and boys can be girls or at least dress up in gender fluid looks. Billy Porter got this trend rolling in his black tuxedo dress by Cristian Siriano. Akwafina in Dsquared2 and Elsie Fisher in Thom Browne showed just how slick and sexy a tailored suit can be on a woman.
CAPE TOWN
Glenn Close was still a winner for us especially in her gold Carolina Herrera outfit with floor-length cape. And we dug Melissa McCarthy’s black and white caped jumpsuit.
AVERAGE SIZE
The secret is out, plus size is now average size and it looked hot on the red carpet. The average American woman now wears a size 14 and up, according to reports, and there was plenty to be inspired by including Ashely Graham’s hourglass silhouette and Octavia Spencer’s glistening blue tea-party gown.
RUFFLES & BOWS
Ruffles and other fabric manipulation including ruching and bows were popular ways to add drama to dresses like Angela Bassett’s Reem Accra gown, Gemma Chan’s Valentino and Jennifer Hudson’s Elie Saab look.
