It’s really a glamorous trade show. But over the years it’s also become a brand builder for celebrities stalking some good publicity and shrewd marketers looking to connect with consumers and put a stylish halo around their brand.
Ralph Lauren Fall 2022
While big names grab your attention, a slew of lesser well known but just as talented frock makers set up shop. Independents to note include Sandy Liang, Sergio Hudson, Deviate, Fe Noel, Cesar Galindo, Byron Lars and Peter Do. A bunch of them have been around and consistently do good work. Others are new kids on the block, relatively speaking.

All go to the trouble of presenting their collections at an appointed time during show week, usually on size 0 models but often on mannequins or racks.

Yet things have changed in the turbulent, tantalizing fashion industry. A lot of designers are into buy now, wear now. It’s just another way of saying the clothes you see on the runway, are clothes you can purchase right now.

There are always a bunch of good parties at fun or fabulous places in New York City. They’re mostly in Manhattan but occasionally Brooklyn. Brooklyn, in fact, has become the new Manhattan not just for housing and carousing but also for shows. Michael Kors, Khaite and Pyer Moss have all shown in the boogie down Brooklyn.
